Buy Michigan Now Festival lends helping hand to state’s economy
For its fourth year, the Buy Michigan Now Festival is taking place in downtown Northville this weekend, Friday, Aug. 3 through Sunday, Aug. 5. The festival, which works to revitalize Michigan’s economy one product, purchase and person at a time, features exhibits and vendors that are headquartered and operated in Michigan.
“Michigan’s economic revitalization will come not from a single industry, or large company relocation, but from small businesses growing and hiring more people,” said Lisa Diggs, founder and coordinator of Buy Michigan Now. She believes that the festival differs from other fun summer events because of its ability to shine a spotlight on the Michigan-based businesses in order to help them grow.
Many local and statewide businesses, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Hiller’s Markets, The Catalyst Company and Internet Automotive help to make the weekend possible serving as sponsors for the festival.
“We could not maintain our campaign or create events like the Buy Michigan Now Festival without the generous support of companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. They share our vision for a healthier Michigan, which makes for a great partnership,” said Diggs.
The weekend also includes entertainment for people of all ages. Visitors can enjoy sidewalk sales, street vendors, live bands, magicians, children activities, local authors and acoustic performers. Many exhibitors at the festival will also demonstrate, sample or sell products and services, all of which highlight businesses and products made or based in our state. The festival is a great way to discover new Michigan products.
Buy Michigan Now began as a campaign in 2007 to revive our state’s economy through encouraging people to factor Michigan into their buying decisions when possible. The campaign, founded by Diggs, the founder of the Catalyst Co., continues its dedication to helping businesses across the state succeed. Buy Michigan Now reminds people to keep in mind the benefits of spending money within our state, and to look for ways to Think Michigan First.
Take an active role in revitalizing our state by joining your friends and neighbors this weekend at the Buy Michigan Now Festival. Together, we can make a difference if we Think Michigan First.
