So maybe you heard that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is changing its corporate status slightly, or maybe you didn’t until now. So the question is this: What’s happening and what does that mean to me? The answer is this: Changes in how the Blues are regulated will not change your current coverage or your relationship with your doctor or hospital. The transition to a mutual nonprofit does not change any of the health coverage currently offered to our customers. And it does not change the partnerships we have in place today with hospital and physicians to improve health care quality. Committed to Michigan We’ll still be Blue Cross we’ve been for nearly 75 years, our character or commitment to Michigan remains the same. The regulations that govern our company may have changed, but the focus has not – we remain committed to serving our customers as a Michigan based, nonprofit company. Blue Cross will continue to contribute to building a healthier future for our state and its people. So you can continue to count on the Blues being based here and contributing substantially to improve health care and the health of all Michiganders. Changes from health reform While there will be many changes occurring in health insurance at the same time, most will not be driven by our transition to a mutual. Significant changes in health care products and the marketplace will occur due to health care reform in 2014; these changes will not be driven by our change to a mutual. Federal health reform is impacting every aspect of the insurance industry and will continue to be the driving force behind changes our customers and stakeholders will experience throughout 2013 and 2014.
