    Blues employees are lunch buddies for Metro Detroit youth

     

    Over 50 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network employees are enjoying their lunch with some very special friends. The Blues have teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Detroit to mentor students as part of the Lunch Buddy program during the school year. These students, known as the “Littles” are learning a lot from their “Bigs,” everything from dedication and drive to healthy living with nutritious food choices and exercise. The “Bigs” are also learning and enjoying their time with the kids.

    For Melissa Countryman, manager in Community Responsibility at BCBSM,  this has come full circle. When she was a child she had a Big Sister and now gets to be one, mentoring two “Littles” in the 5th grade at Marcus Garvey Academy. She goes every other week during her lunch hour.
