Four kids selected to be ball kids for Detroit Pistons, honoring their efforts to Dream Big

In celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, BCBSM and the Detroit Pistons hosted over 200 kids from local community organizations at the Palace of Auburn Hills Monday, January 20, to take part in the “Dream Big” program promoting young people’s aspirations to do great things with their lives. The collaboration with the Detroit Pistons, Detroit PAL, Detroit Branch of the NAACP, YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit and Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan treated the children to a rare matinee game. Four young people were selected to be a Piston ball kid for the day. The role of being a ball kid allowed Rashad Williams, with Detroit PAL, to represent his organization. “I am honored to be chosen to represent Detroit PAL and thank Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the Pistons for this opportunity”, said Williams who is the “Youth of the Year” for Detroit PAL. During the game, the four participants gathered balls for the team, took photos with a Pistons player and received an autographed item prior to tip-off. After the game, all participating youth took photos on the court and participated in a free throw shoot around. Shirts, backpacks, and cheer cards containing the NBA “Dream Big” logo were given out to all of the kids who participated in the event.
