BCBSM looks forward to learning more about proposed hospital system mergers

Today, three southeast Michigan hospital systems announced they have signed a letter-of-intent to merge. Below is the immediate reaction from Daniel J. Loepp, President and CEO of BCBSM. With a movement toward hospital consolidation underway across the nation, it's not surprising that independent hospital systems in Michigan are exploring ways to come together. Blue Cross has tremendous respect and strong relationships with these three community-based hospital systems, and we are working with all three on our new, value-based approach to hospital reimbursement. We look forward to learning more details about the plans by Beaumont Health System, Oakwood Healthcare and Botsford Hospital to enhance health care delivery in our state.
