- Barb Wilcenski of Jackson, 76, is the volunteer leader of Grace Church’s GriefShare program for people who have recently lost a loved one. The program is open to all ages, but consists mostly of older men and women. Along with leading the program, Barb organizes meetings with past and current attendees. After suffering her own losses, she tirelessly volunteers her time to help others in their grief. Barb also leads a group that entertains nursing home residents.
- George Wojdacki of Clinton Township, 66, volunteers as a Medical Medicare Assistance Program (MMAP) outreach specialist by helping older adults understand Medicare options and healthcare benefits through counseling and presentations. While volunteering 789 hours in the last year, George has shared ideas on how to increase awareness and build partnerships in order to help older adults in the state. His leadership formed a workgroup devoted to awareness building, where volunteers come together to develop and implement ideas.

I've had the pleasure of knowing Karen, at AWBS, for many years through the tireless efforts of my being 3 times a caregiver, myself. AWBS is a wonderful organization, and I am glad that the Blues supports efforts of organizations, such as AWBS, and individuals who fight the fight by advocating for our senior citizens. And, I encourage everyone to adopt a senior, whether it be a friend, family or neighbor. I continue to advocate for my seniors through a support group, called Strength and Courage; being someone who has gone through the caregiving journey has made me a better person, as it is an eye-opening experience. It is always a rewarding feeling when you are there for those who aren't physically, and many times mentally, able to do for themselves. Give them their flowers while they are still alive. Thank you to the Blues for giving advocates their flowers.

Great article! Some great knowledge in knowing that our Blues support the seniors with awards such as the Claude Pepper.
