Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan was recognized as an advanced leader for diversity with an Excellence in Supplier Diversity Award  by the Women’s Business Enterprise Council—Great Lakes (WBEC-Great Lakes). This award highlights BCBSM’s leadership and committed support to women owned suppliers, capacity building and advocacy for women owned businesses.

“BCBSM was honored to be part of the 14th Annual Great Lakes Women’s Business Conference this week”, said Jim Line, director of Corporate Procurement for BCBSM, who accepted the award on behalf of Blue Cross. “We are thankful for all the support and services WBEC-Great Lakes provides corporate members such as us and our area businesses.  BCBSM was privileged to be recognized in the Excellence in Supplier Diversity – Advanced award!”

Jim Line believes Blue Cross takes its commitment to supplier diversity seriously and encourages multiple areas of the business to utilize diverse suppliers whenever possible.

“Several areas from the Blues came out to celebrate this achievement.  This award is a continuing recognition that the employees here at the Blues make business decisions to be open to new suppliers and innovation they bring to the Blues.  Also, this event provided networking opportunities and we appreciated a time to meet and understand the solutions and offerings its members provide.  Thank you to WBEC-Great Lakes – we are extremely proud to showcase this prestigious award!”

In addition to the Excellence in Supplier Diversity Award, Erica White, supplier diversity administrator, for Blue Cross was recognized as Corporate Champion of the Year by WBEC-Great Lakes.

“It is such an honor to have been named the Corporate Champion of the Year”, said White after receiving her award. “I absolutely love working with organizations like WBEC-Great Lakes because of what they do for all of the women-owned businesses. It’s important to our mission to work with diverse companies, and being that women are the fastest growing group of business owners, cultivating the relationship with WBEC Great Lakes is very important to me, and to Blue Cross. What a great day for the Blues!”
