BCBSM is on the list as a National 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For – for the fourth time in a row. Even better, the company has been recognized as a “Best and Brightest” in three categories – national, West Michigan and Metro Detroit – for four straight years. And in the Metro Detroit division, BCBSM was honored as an elite winner in the Diversity and Inclusion category.
What’s more, Crain’s Detroit Business named Blue Cross one of Michigan’s “Cool Places to Work” for the third time in a row. “It’s no coincidence that BCBSM has earned both of these prestigious honors three times in a row,” said Cathy Goheen, vice president, Human Resources. “As a new nonprofit mutual company, it’s important to recruit top candidates to join our team, and these honors will help us stand out.” 2014 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For The “Best and Brightest” honor is bestowed by the Warren-based National Association for Business Resources. Companies were judged on such measures as compensation and benefits, employee enrichment, engagement and retention, education and development, diversity and inclusion, community initiatives and employee achievement and recognition. BCBSM earned special recognition as an elite winner for Diversity and Inclusion in Metro Detroit due to a broad range of programs and initiatives. A partial list includes our Employee Resource Networks, Diversity Learning Labs, Project SEARCH and recruitment initiatives with the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council and others. “We are honored to have our Diversity and Inclusion program singled out for recognition in Metro Detroit,” said Amal Berry-Brown, senior director, Diversity and Inclusion. “We have had wonderful support from senior leadership and so many other employees who have contributed their time and talents.” View the national winnersMetro Detroit winners and West Michigan winners. Crain’s 2014 Cool Places to Work BCBSM made the list (at No. 9 among employers with 250 or more employees) for the third year in a row. What makes the company cool? According to Crain’s, it’s special onsite events such as the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, visits from sports figures, the Live Downtown program and the BWell program. “We are very pleased our workplace culture continues to be recognized at both the local and national level,” said Laura Byars, senior director, Human Performance. “Perhaps even more gratifying is that employee surveys were part of winning both awards because it means that employees recognize they have a great place to work.” Read about the Crain’s Cool Places to Work winners in the Nov. 16 Crain's Detroit Business.
