The Music Hall in downtown Detroit will host a benefit concert to support the future of the historic center at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12. The nonprofit is launching its first capital campaign in 20 years and hopes to raise $1.7 million by this spring. The concert will feature Chaka Khan along with other funk and gospel artists. Michael Cooper of Con Funk Shun, Jon Barfield, Michael Mindingall, Maurissa Rose, and Ashton and Rivonne Moore will also be performing. The event will kick-off a five-year, $7 million capital campaign to preserve the building and its legacy. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan has pledged $50,000 in support of the campaign and is the title sponsor of the Feb. 12 benefit concert.
