Sunshine, fresh air and shrieks of laughter made for a perfectly hilarious afternoon in Grand Rapids recently. Over 50 teams came out for LaughFest’s Seriously Funny Family Adventure Challenge on Sunday, March 20. Teams of families and friends dressed up in their funniest attire to tackle a series of obstacles in a timed race-to-the-finish course set up throughout downtown. Everyone started with a heart-thumping session of Zumba at The B.O.B., then took off through the city. Along the way, teams took part in games of Twister, rubber chicken relays, and competed to “catch” the most smiles, along with many other teamwork-focused and funny stops. First- through third-place awards were given to the teams that completed the event fastest and with the most points, teams with at least one member under the age of 16 that completed the event fastest and with the most points, and to teams with the best team spirit. The event capped off 10 days of LaughFest fun in the city. The annual celebration of laughter raises money for the free emotional healthcare programs offered for children and adults living with cancer and grief for any reason through Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids. During its first five years, funds raised during LaughFest accounted for approximately 10 percent of Gilda’s Club’s annual budget. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network were proud sponsors of the adventure challenge and a series of blood drives that helped raise funds for LaughFest’s “High Five” campaign.
