Every Friday night throughout the summer, local bands are featured in downtown Plymouth’s Kellogg Park as part of the “Music in the Air” concert series. More than 5,000 residents of Plymouth and the surrounding area pack the park with blankets and chairs to enjoy the music and family-friendly atmosphere each week. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is celebrating its 10th consecutive year as the series' presenting sponsor. The 2016 schedule, running from May 27 to Sept. 2, features a variety of music genres. Rock, pop, soul and even a Jimmy Buffett tribute band are included in this year’s lineup.
Blue Cross representatives attend each week to interact with the crowd and promote activities that encourage healthy habits for kids and their families. Concert-goers who stop by the Blue Cross tent have the opportunity to take the #MIKidsCan Pledge, receive free giveaways and enter a weekly raffle. “We usually sit near the Blue Cross Blue Shield tent. The kids like to play the cornhole game, dance and blow bubbles,” said Melissa Barszczowski, who has attended every concert so far this year with her children, ages seven and three. “Of course, they also like to check out the coloring books and do the chalk on the sidewalk, but mostly just enjoy each other and the music.”
Blue Cross’ involvement in the concert series is part of an ongoing commitment to healthy communities and families throughout Michigan.
