Being a mom can be overwhelming, especially while pregnant. Women need to make sure they’re staying healthy while experiencing a lot of changes. However, motherhood is also something to celebrate and Blue Cross Complete wants to join in the festivities by hosting a free community baby shower and health fair. The goal: To help women learn how to take care of themselves and their children. Here’s a little more about the event:
  • What is it? Blue Cross Complete of Michigan’s Health Fair and Baby Shower
  • Who’s invited? New moms, moms-to-be and children
  • When is it? Friday, March 23, from 11 AM to 2 PM
  • Where? The Northwest Activities Center, 18100 Meyers Road, Detroit, MI 48235
Attendees will learn about prenatal care, healthy eating, breastfeeding, how to correctly install a car seat and more. They’ll also be able to enter to win giveaways for baby essentials like car seats, strollers and gift baskets filled with goodies for mom and baby. Plus, all moms will receive a special gift just for attending. Guests will also be treated to a healthy cooking demonstration from Blue Cross Complete’s Chef Paul who will be making delicious, healthy and affordable lunches and after-school snacks with samples to hand out. The best news is, kids are welcome, too! A play area featuring arts and crafts, story time and face painting will be available for the duration of the event for potty-trained children. Moms can also use the health fair to make sure their children are up-to-date on immunizations, lead screenings and dental cleanings (with parental consent). The following organizations will be onsite for consultation: Black Mothers Breastfeeding Association, Mott’s Children Hospital, Kohl’s Safe 4 Kids, Maternal Infant Health Program providers, Matrix Human Services Head Start and more.
Interested in attending? Please RSVP to 844-280-9127. Blue Cross Complete members who need a ride to the event can call 1-888-803-4947 (TTY users should call 711) for free transportation services.
