Michigan residents under the age of 18 are eligible to be nominated for recognition

Detroit, Mich., May 24, 2016 — Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is looking for kids who should be recognized for their commitment to living a healthy, active lifestyle. Each month, one inspirational child will be selected as the #MIKidsCan Champion of the Month. #MIKidsCan is Blue Cross’ statewide initiative to encourage everybody in Michigan to help the kids in their lives make healthier choices — like choosing healthy foods and making sure they get 60 minutes of active play every day. “It’s important that we encourage our kids to develop healthy habits while they’re young, so these habits stick with them into adulthood,” Andy Hetzel, vice president of Corporate Communications at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. “The #MIKidsCan Champion of the Month is our way of recognizing Michigan kids for staying active, making healthy choices and motivating friends and family to do the same.” Seven-year-old Isabelle Sarkody of Woodhaven, Mich. was selected as the May #MIKidsCan Champion of the Month after ranking in the top five nationwide finalists of nearly 2,500 entries in a healthy breakfast competition. To read Isabelle’s story, or nominate a child, visit Children must be under 18 years old and reside in Michigan to be eligible.
