Winner of #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes will ride in parade, deliver game ball

DETROIT, Oct. 22, 2015 —Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is partnering with the Detroit Lions on the #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes, a digital contest calling on Lions fans to share what their kids do to get active by playing for 60 minutes a day. The winning child will receive a Thanksgiving VIP prize package that includes riding on the Blue Cross float in America’s Thanksgiving Parade presented by Art Van and delivering the game ball to Ford Field for the Lions’ Thanksgiving game. “Blue Cross and the Lions believe that every kid in Michigan should be treated like a VIP when it comes to their health. But fewer than one-third of our kids get the physical activity they need every day,” said Andrew Hetzel, vice president for corporate communications at Blue Cross. “Partnering with the Detroit Lions on this contest is a way to engage kids and families in something fun to focus us all on the healthy habits they need to develop now to become healthy adults in the future.” Parents can enter children between the ages of 10-18 in the #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes by visiting DetroitLions.com/MIKidsCan through Nov. 13 and sharing how their child gets active playing for 60 minutes every day. One lucky winner will be selected at random on Nov. 19 and get to:
  • Ride on the Blue Cross float in America’s Thanksgiving Parade, accompanied by two adults, including one parent or guardian
  • Invite guests to special seating along the parade route
  • Deliver the commemorative game ball to Ford Field prior to the Lions taking on the Philadelphia Eagles
  • Participate in the national anthem and on-field “fan tunnel” prior to the Lions game
  • Enjoy Thanksgiving dinner and club-level seats with nine guests at Ford Field
“America’s Thanksgiving Parade and our Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day Classic make this holiday in Detroit like no other,” said Detroit Lions Senior Vice President of Marketing and Partnerships Elizabeth Parkinson. “Teaming up with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan to combine these two time-honored traditions into one encompassing experience will provide the memory of a lifetime for a young Lions fan.” The #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes supports Blue Cross’s ongoing commitment to children’s health and its #MIKidsCan campaign – an initiative focused on encouraging kids to adopt healthy habits early in life that are more likely to be carried into adulthood. Over the last 10 years, Blue Cross has given more than $6 million in support of kids’ health and wellness initiatives across the state, reaching more than 100,000 children.
