The state House Insurance Committee last week took up Gov. Rick Snyder’s proposal to modernize Michigan’s health care regulatory system by transitioning Blue Cross to a nonprofit mutual insurance company. The bills passed the state Senate unanimously earlier this month. The Senate vote and the re-introduction in the House represent the first action on the bills after Snyder vetoed similar legislation late last year over amendments inserted into the final bills. Blue Cross has urged lawmakers to prioritize the legislation in the new session so that tens of millions of Michigan consumers can shop for insurance on a properly functioning health exchange when it goes live later this year. Below is a Storify roundup of what various news media and Blue Cross are saying about the legislation. You can also view our archive of blog posts about the nonprofit mutual proposal. http://storify.com/BCBSM/legislation-to-modernize-michigan-s-health-care-re Photo by CedarBendDrive
