Blues CEO Daniel J. Loepp tells Wayne State communications students ‘You can do it’ (with Storify)
The Wayne State University chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America honored Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan CEO Daniel J. Loepp Wednesday with the Alumni Achievement Award at an alumni and student recognition luncheon in Detroit.
Loepp, who earned his B.A. in communication in 1982 and his master’s in political communication in 1986, both at Wayne, briefly discussed his own life story as a kid from Detroit’s east side who attended De La Salle Collegiate High School, when it was located near Detroit City Airport. Loepp said he learned valuable communications and writing skills during his time at Wayne. His master’s thesis formed the basis of his 1999 book, “Sharing the Balance of Power,” about the unique joint control of the state House from 1993-94, when Loepp served as chief of staff to Democratic co-Speaker Curtis Hertel. (Loepp’s journey from politics to the leader of BCBSM was chronicled last year in Dome magazine.)
