As a part of the #MIKidsCan movement, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan has partnered with the Detroit Pistons as the first-ever presenting sponsor of the Mob Squad. The Mob Squad is a youth hip hop and jazz dance team that performs at Detroit Pistons' games and other local venues. The team is made up of 20 dancers, ages 7-15, from metro Detroit communities like Fenton, Sterling Heights, Detroit and Waterford among many others. In the #MIKidsCan spirit of keeping active and healthy, the dancers on the team exude athleticism, enthusiasm and the ability to be team players. In addition to their Mob Squad membership, teammates are also involved at local dance studios, reality programming such as "Dance Moms," and even have spots in Pharrell's official "Happy" music video. Dance is a great way to engage with your kids, keep them active or even get them involved in the community. From freestyle to ballet, there are also many physical and mental benefits of dance including:
  • increased flexibility
  • stress relief
  • improved posture and balance
  • enhanced heart health
  • reduced stress and anxiety
The Mob Squad will perform during 15 Pistons home games and at halftime alongside some of the biggest stars in music. The dance crew’s first performance will be Opening Night, The Pistons Premiere, Nov. 1, when the Detroit Pistons take on the Brooklyn Nets. So bring your kids, enjoy a basketball game and dance along with the Mob Squad through the Pistons season this fall. Photo credit: The Mob Squad
