Thanksgiving Day is one of Detroit’s great traditions, and it’s a big part of our year here at Blue Cross. Today, we’ll have employees running the annual Turkey Trot race and volunteering at America’s Thanksgiving Parade. We’re also co-sponsoring the halftime entertainment and more at the Detroit Lions game against Chicago at Ford Field. You can also catch our president and CEO, Daniel J. Loepp, throughout the live coverage of the Thanksgiving parade on WDIV-TV and WJR-AM. Loepp will appear with Chuck Gaidica, the popular, longtime WDIV weather anchor and event host, to discuss an exciting new partnership on the network’s parade coverage at 7:45 a.m. Loepp will also visit with WDIV’s Carmen Harlan and Devin Scillian at 9:20 a.m. to discuss BCBSM’s new #MIKidsCan initiative targeting children’s health and wellness. He’ll also join WJR host Paul W. Smith at 10:05 a.m. We recently announced Cass City Elementary and Zharia Akeem, a seventh grader at Bates Academy in Detroit, as winners of our #MIKidsCan contest. But #MIKidsCan goes beyond the contest to encourage kids to find any way they can to be physically active and eat healthy. Finally, BCBSM is once again proud to be presenting sponsor of the Lions’ Thanksgiving Day game against the Bears. We’ll be handing out commemorative rally towels to 50,000 fans and a $7,500 donation to HYPE Athletics Community, a youth development program that helps kids in Wayne County develop athletic, academic and life skills. We’ll also be sponsoring the halftime show, dubbed “Come Out and Play,” as part of #MIKidsCan. You can view a 30-second public service commercial Loepp recorded with Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford and 9 year-old Issac Brown, a budding entertainer from Detroit who’s appeared on the TV show “America’s Got Talent.” The ad has been airing since Monday and will run during the Lions-Bears telecast (kickoff is 12:30 p.m.). Take a look, and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
