Summer vacation is approaching and kids are quickly getting restless, but they'll soon be in luck. The West Michigan Whitecaps are gearing up to host their annual School Days events, which gets kids out of the classroom and into the ballpark for a fun, non-traditional learning experience. Whitecaps School Days are filled with interactive activities that promote fitness and learning for elementary school children. This year, there are three, fun and educational days scheduled on May 18, 19 and June 7. Each event hosts nearly 3,000 students, parents and educators to participate in exciting, hands-on activities, as well as an action-packed Whitecaps game. Students will learn about a variety of subjects such as nutrition, geography, math and science, as well as the importance of physical fitness through games and demonstrations like, “Get up and Move!" Every student will also receive a free “Go Caps” cheer card to cheer on their favorite team. Sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Whitecaps School Days has also partnered with Michigan museums for the first time to offer new activities.
  • May 18 - Impression 5 will have a trebuchet demonstration, a sort of catapult used to fling heavy objects, and a slime creation station.
  • May 19 - The Air Zoo will stop by with a rocket launch demonstration, glider display, and parachute- and helicopter-making station.
  • June 7 - The Michigan Science Center will present “explosive” science experiments and discuss the physics of baseball.
Whitecaps School Days are the perfect opportunity to expand student learning beyond the confines of the classroom to get kids active and excited about education. The activity stations cover a variety of topics that coincide with classroom lesson plans for elementary school students and promote physical fitness in fun and engaging ways. Each event starts at 9:30 a.m. to allow time for the kids to visit all of the activity stations before the game starts at 11 a.m. Visit the Whitecaps promotions page for more information about the Whitecaps School Days and how to purchase tickets.
