Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is proud to be to be a Michigan-headquartered company with a growing national presence that is increasingly diversifying to ensure our continued success.
As our enterprise works together to face the challenges of the unprecedented public health crisis brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important to recognize that we are able to serve our members best when the foundations of our business are strong.
Our 2019 performance demonstrates the strength of that foundation and how we are able to provide even greater value to our customers and members, while staying true to our long-standing social mission to increase access to quality, affordable healthcare and support our communities. Throughout 2019, which was our 80th year, Blue Cross strengthened our partnerships and innovated to improve health care for everyone. We expanded access for Michiganders, especially those who need it most. We broadened our reach and impact, providing that same level of trusted coverage, service and quality as a company that now serves members in all 50 states.
In a complex and highly competitive environment and as we continue to navigate the developing situation of this worldwide pandemic, Blue Cross continues to maintain our focus on our customers and members – keeping them at the center of everything we do. In 2019 and now, we are working harder than ever to build guidance into our everyday interactions with our members, redesigning our care management model to use a holistic, member-centric approach that delivers the right health outcomes. We’re also transforming the way health care costs are managed, and joined with health organizations across Michigan through our Blueprint for Affordability initiative to share accountability for quality and costs.
Our 2019 Annual Report demonstrates how Blue Cross continues to innovate and evolve to improve healthcare not only for our members but for everyone. More than ever, we are committed to serving as trusted partners for our customers and members, providing the guidance they need to help them better manage their health conditions and overall costs, while improving their experiences along their health care journey.
