Many eyes across West Michigan were fixed on the L.V. Eberhard Center in Grand Rapids last Friday, January 11, as Grand Valley State University released the details of the fourth edition of their Health Check: Analyzing Trends in West Michigan report. Sponsored in part by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network, the report identifies the health-related issues facing Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon and Allegan counties. Among the findings, heavy and binge drinking, obesity, and inadequate exercise are common risk factors in the region. As part of the event, Jeff Connolly, president of West Michigan operations and managed care for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, spoke on a panel of healthcare executives about what the report means for healthcare costs in the region. http://storify.com/BCBSM/grand-valley-state-university-healthcare-summit
