Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s Live the Riverfront partnership with the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy expanded on Wednesday, June 24, when a new Fit Park was unveiled along the Dequindre Cut Greenway. At noon, the Fit Park was dedicated by Tricia Keith, senior vice president, Corporate Secretary and Services, and Mark Wallace, president and CEO of the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy. “Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network are so excited to add more to this partnership with the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy,” said Keith. “Partnership goes a long way when self-interests align, and Blue Cross’ mission to create opportunities for healthy lifestyles tied with the gem that is the Riverfront is a great way to showcase and add to the great city of Detroit.” The muti-year Live the Riverfront program is in its second year and promotes healthy living through a series of low-cost activities along the Riverfront, including Walk the RiverWalk Wednesdays and Moonlight Yoga. Michelle Moten, founder and program director of Urban Solace Yoga Studio, was in attendance to instruct first-time Fit Park users on how to use the equipment. Printed instructions for the equipment are available onsite for community members who plan on taking advantage of the Fit Park. “The Fit Park’s accessible location along the Dequindre Cut make it a great addition to the Riverfront,” said Moten. “Before using the Fit Park, talk to a physician to gauge the right level of physical activity for you. Most importantly, listen to your body while exercising to optimize your workout!” This free outdoor public workout space consists of permanently installed equipment designed to provide users with a full-body workout. The workout area is a HealthBeat Outdoor Fitness System for ages 13 and up, and includes:
  • Parallel bars
  • Pull-up bars
  • Ab crunch/leg lift
  • Cardio stepper
  • Squat press
  • Chest/back press
The Fit Park will be a great way to learn more about what the Riverfront has to offer. It will be open every day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Many Detroit residents use the Riverfront and the Dequindre Cut for dog walking, bike riding and other family-friendly activities. The Fit Park is located at the Woodbridge entrance to the Dequindre Cut. The most direct route to the Fit Park is by travelling east on Woodbridge from the Renaissance Center to the Cut.
