Members Elect 11 to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Board of Directors

DETROIT, June 1, 2022, – Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan members on May 26, 2022, elected a slate of 11 individuals to the company’s board of directors. The elected slate is part of the 35-directors who make up the full board. “Having members elect the board is vital to who we are and how we act as a company,” said Daniel J. Loepp, BCBSM president and CEO. The 11 elected board members and their components are as follows:
  • James Agee – Medium and Large Group Management
  • Peter Ajluni, D.O. – Provider
  • Reneé Axt – Individual
  • Terry Burns – Medium and Large Group Management
  • Patrick Devlin – Medium and Large Group Labor
  • Linda Forte – At Large
  • Gerald Kariem – Medium and Large Group Labor
  • Melvin Larsen – Individual
  • Dennis Ramus, M.D., F.A.A.F.P. – Provider

Gregory A. Sudderth of Traverse City was re-elected as board chairman, and F. Remington Sprague, M.D., of Muskegon as board vice chairman. Sudderth is president of CIR, Inc. dba Executive Labor–Management Services Inc., a company specializing in addressing the needs of private and public sector employees and their respective local unions. “Greg Sudderth is an innovator, visionary and problem solver that recognizes the significant challenges and opportunities facing Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan,” said Daniel J. Loepp, president and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. “His persistent engagement and leadership have helped Blue Cross navigate through an unprecedented pandemic and an evolving health care industry.” Sprague is the retired vice president and chief medical officer of Mercy Health Muskegon. Mercy Health Muskegon, a division of Trinity Health, is a faith-based health care organization committed to delivering high quality, comprehensive, accessible and personalized care. “Dr. Sprague’s deep understanding of the health care industry and thoughtful point of view provide tremendous value to our business,” said Loepp. The 2022-2023 Blue Cross board seats 35 directors. Eight seats are filled by medical professionals, six seats are filled by individual subscribers and small groups, and four seats are at large. A seat is filled by the company’s chief executive officer. The remaining 16 seats are filled by Blue Cross customers from large and medium group management and labor.
