Michiganders, on average, don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables. According to University of California, Berkeley’s School of Public Health, for most cancer sites, individuals with a fruit and vegetable intake in the lower one-fourth of the population experience about twice the risk of cancer compared with those with high intake. As part of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s three-month #KickCancer campaign, the Blues social media team came together to raise awareness for how Michigan produce helps #KickCancer in the most appropriate fashion.
Eight of us geared up in fruit and vegetable costumes to health bombed Eastern Market, sporadically joining a yoga class and doing various exercises amidst normal market activities. The team educated curious onlookers about the #KickCancer campaign, highlighting the importance of getting the daily recommended amount of fruits and vegetables.
