PRIDE Flag
Colors of the rainbow will illuminate Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s GM Renaissance Center towers on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9, during Motor City Pride, a weekend-long event in Detroit supporting human rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) communities. AF Group, a subsidiary of Blue Cross, will also light its headquarters on June 10, leading up to the Michigan Pride March, Rally and Festival on June 14 and 15 in Lansing. Pride Month in June represents a nationwide human rights campaign advocating for LGBTQ rights and equality. More than 40 percent of LGBTQ youth reside in communities not accepting of LGBTQ people, and studies report between 15 to 43 percent of LGBTQ people have experienced some form of discrimination or harassment in the workplace. Fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion in the workplace is a longstanding priority for Blue Cross. Last month, the Corktown Health Center presented the 2nd Annual LGBTQ Health Heroes Award to Laura Marble, vice president of information technology (IT) at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, for her work helping those underserved in the LGBTQ community. For more than 30 years, Blue Cross has developed a proud tradition of spotlighting important causes and special events with light displays. In addition to supporting Pride Month, the headquarters are illuminated each October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and February for American Heart Month. The light displays are one of many ways Blue Cross contributes to the liveliness and diversity of the downtown Detroit community. If you enjoyed this post, you might also like:
