DiversityInc magazine has placed Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan atop its 2016 Top 10 Regional Companies list for excellence in diversity management practices. This is the second year in a row that BCBSM has claimed the number one spot. The ranking is based on DiversityInc’s annual survey, which tracks the nation’s top companies when it comes to hiring, retaining and promoting women, minorities, people with disabilities, LGBT and veterans. It is the most rigorous data-driven survey of its kind. BCBSM is the only Michigan-based company to be included on the regional list. “To be recognized again with a number one ranking from DiversityIncis an honor that all Blue Cross employees can be proud about,” said Bridget Hurd, senior director, Diversity and Inclusion. “It means our diversity and inclusion efforts, inside and outside our organization, are effective and admired.” Rankings for the list are based on talent pipeline, equitable talent development (including commitments to mentorship and philanthropy), CEO/leadership commitment and supplier diversity. The list is derived exclusively from corporate survey submissions. Companies are evaluated within the context of their own industries, with more than 15 industries represented. Blue Cross’ commitment to diversity is reinforced throughout the entire organization, and includes:
  • A Diversity Leadership Council comprised of executives throughout the company to help employees understand and participate in diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • Corporatewide cultural competency training
  • Diverse employee resource network groups
  • Development of new partnerships with diverse suppliers
In addition, Blue Cross employees demonstrate a personal commitment to diversity by participating in diversity-related volunteer activities and cultural immersion experiences. Read more about Blue Cross' commitment to diversity on bcbsm.com/diversity. You may also enjoy:
