Making Michigan healthier is work made lighter through the many hands undertaking on-the-ground efforts in places where people live, work and learn. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is proud to support various institutions and individuals across the state whose important and groundbreaking work has helped Michigan families lead happier, healthier lives. Children’s health has been a key focus area for Blue Cross when it comes to making Michigan communities healthier. Since 2009, our Building Healthy Communities program has helped more than 600 schools statewide, including Kennedy Elementary in Livonia, implement healthy curriculums that inspire a culture of getting active and eating healthy. https://youtu.be/BvhwKeVkcBc Addressing community health crises, including the growing opioid epidemic, is critical to Blue Cross’ efforts serving Michigan residents. By supporting organizations like Families Against Narcotics (FAN), Blue Cross has helped improve access to quality health care and substance abuse treatment options for those struggling with addiction, empowering families to seek help without fear of prosecution. https://youtu.be/gTsfkbNU0HY Blue Cross also supports organizations dedicated to making essential health care services accessible to vulnerable, uninsured Michigan residents. One such organization is City on a Hill Health Clinic in Zeeland, Mich., which provides free medical care for minor injuries or illnesses to Ottawa County residents in need. These services are made possible through Blue Cross’ Strengthening the Safety Net grant program, which helps clinics across the state improve access to services in the medical, dental and mental health space for underserved communities. https://youtu.be/Qbh7MEnYxhM Interested in learning more about Blue Cross' community health efforts?
