Man diagnosed with COVID-19
*Update: As of February 9, 2021, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network will continue to waive cost sharing for members who are diagnosed and treated for COVID-19 through Sept. 30, 2021. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network have put the health of our members and customers at the forefront of every action we've taken in response to the COVID-19 pandemic since the beginning. In a continued effort to ensure that members have access to the care they need and peace of mind during these unprecedented times, Blue Cross will continue to waive cost sharing for those who are diagnosed and treated for COVID-19 through March 31, 2021. This is an extension of a temporary benefit, originally set to expire on December 31. This commitment ensures members will not pay out-of-pocket costs – copays, deductibles or coinsurance – for the medical care and pharmacy costs associated with COVID-19. Since March, Blue Cross has paid more than $25 million to support these cost-share waivers. Members have not had to pay cost sharing for treatment in the form of copays, deductibles and coinsurance since March 2020 when the first cases of COVID-19 were announced in Michigan. The temporary waiver applies to all commercial and Medicare plans. Blue Cross also continues to pay for FDA-approved, physician-authorized testing for COVID-19 until further notice. My Husband had Covid march of 2020. Spent 15 days in the Hospital. Then care with Lung dr thru 12- 2020. In August of 2020 he had a Bronchocopy, Dr wanted to see if there is another reason his covid was not clearing up faster. The results were, it was left over covid in his lungs. Nothing else. The Hospital billing is refusing to code this (and other bills from the lung dr as Covid) resulting in a deductable and copays. Shouldnt this all be part of the covid he had?

I was hospitalized for Covid in April 2021, in ICU for almost two weeks. Although BCBSM says it will pay out of pocket costs, they have not and now bills are going to collection. First I was told by customer service that they were billed wrong and to have the hospital rebill for Covid, which I did but still keep getting bills, and then on the second call I was told I was being issued a check by BCBSM to pay the bills and that was mailed 12 days ago, yet I have received nothing. I was also told that someone would be calling me back to tell me when the check will be issued. BCBS employees don't seem to informed while people trying to recover are inundated with bills and wrong information. I've made over 30 calls about these bills while I've been sick on oxygen trying to recover. I hate looking in the mail now because it's just another bill.
