After barely a year of full implementation, it’s simply too soon to pass judgment on the Affordable Care Act, which is accomplishing many good things — even if the law remains far too complicated and confusing. That was the essence of my message Monday at a Detroit Economic Club luncheon at the Westin Book Cadillac, where I had the pleasure of being the keynote speaker. Love it or loathe it, the ACA has sent sweeping changes across the U.S. health care system and extended health insurance coverage to millions of Americans who had long gone without it. It has also had the effect of focusing the private sector on ways to improve health care quality and lower costs. You can view a short video snippet of my speech below. Links to various media coverage and the full Ustream footage of the event are listed at the bottom.
