Upcoming Parkinson’s Symposium Aimed at Caregivers, Health Care Pros

The Michigan Parkinson Foundation will host a symposium on “Responsive, Quality, Compassionate Care for the Person with Parkinson’s Disease" on Friday, June 14. In conjunction with Wayne State University Institute of Gerontology, the symposium aims to educate health care professionals and family members who provide daily care for people with Parkinson’s disease. The all-day event takes place at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. Two separate tracks will be offered for professionals and caretakers, covering a wide range of topics. For caregivers and patients, sessions will be held on:
- Navigating Late Stage Parkinson’s Disease
- Care for the Care Partner
- Diagnosis and Management of Neuropsychiatric Symptoms in Parkinson’s
- Long-term Care Options
- Nutrition and Swallowing Issues with Parkinson’s
For health care professionals, the following topics will be addressed:
- Long-term Care and Short-term Skilled Care
- Best Practices for Person-Centered Care
- Managing Medication for Better Health Outcomes
- How to Meet the Nutritional Needs of a Parkinson’s Patient
- Advances in Translating Fall Risk Reduction for Older Adults
