Writing letters can be therapeutic and fun, so why not send some good, old-fashioned, hand-addressed snail mail to a friend or loved one, or drop off a letter or card with art attached? This is mindful art, which is a creative form of meditation. There is no wrong way to create mindful art, just show up and do it. The focus shouldn’t be on creativity or artistic ability because everyone is creative in their own way. It’s all about slowing down and tuning into your mind to create a unique experience for yourself and others.

Tap into your creativity

Being mindful means just staying in the present moment. Think of it as though nothing else in the world exists right now except you, your drawing tools and the paper, envelope or note card. Take time to use your senses and accept everything happening around you. The benefits of a mindfulness practice extend beyond your thoughts. It can also help with memory, stress and even your physical health.

Mindful art ideas

By being more mindful on a regular basis, you may experience better sleep, less chronic pain and a boost in your immune system. Show your appreciation and express yourself with mindful art. Here are a few suggestions:
  • Use colored pencils, gel pens or markers.
  • Choose pretty stationery or craft paper.
  • Decorate a postcard or plain paper.
  • Decorate your envelope inside and out.
  • Draw a picture.
  • Make your own envelope.
  • Use ink stamps, stickers or glitter.
  • Think about your recipient’s interests.
  • Create a keepsake for someone.
