Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is once again the only company in the state to receive top regional honors on DiversityInc’s Top 10 Regional Companies list for diversity management. For the fourth consecutive year, the Blues edged out over a thousand companies for a spot on the coveted list, which recognizes companies for excellence in diversity management practices.
Rankings for the list are determined by an objective methodology that calculates factors such as talent pipeline, equitable talent development (including commitments to mentorship and philanthropy), CEO/leadership commitment, and supplier diversity based on a 300-question survey filled out by personnel at the participating companies.
"Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is honored to be recognized by DiversityInc for our commitment to diversity," said Amal Berry Brown, senior director of diversity and inclusion for BCBSM. “We are dedicated to encouraging diversity and inclusion as part of our mission of being not only a great place to work for our employees, but also a true partner in the communities we serve to help strengthen the health of Michigan residents.”
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s commitment to diversity is reinforced throughout the entire organization and includes the Diversity Leadership Council, which is made up of executives from different areas of the organization that help employees understand diversity and inclusion. The Blues consistently provide corporate-wide diversity training and opportunities that foster inclusion and appreciation for diversity and also offer several diverse employee resource network groups. Additionally, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan strives to consistently develop new partnerships with diverse suppliers and currently has close to 200 diverse suppliers to better serve Michigan communities.
“Earning a spot on DiversityInc lists proves that management is paying close attention to the needs of their primary constituents—employees, customers and other key stakeholders,” said DiversityInc Founder and CEO Luke Visconti. “Companies with great reputations attract the best and most skilled employees who then create and deliver the best products and services.”
