In recognition of significant personal and professional contributions to the development of management and leadership, the National Management Association (NMA) chapters of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan awarded Michigan State University (MSU) President Lou Anna K. Simon the chapter’s Hall of Fame Award. BCBSM President and CEO Daniel J. Loepp introduced Simon and presented the award at a joint NMA chapter meeting on Oct. 28 at BCBSM’s Lyon Meadows Conference Center. In presenting the award, BCBSM’s NMA Chapters recognized that Dr. Simon, as MSU’s first female president, has engaged Michigan State University in a strategic and transformative journey to adapt the principles of a "land-grant" college tradition to 21st century challenges. “It was an honor to present Dr. Lou Anna Simon with the Hall of Fame Award for her dedication to leadership. Not only does she lead one of the largest public universities in the state, she also helps develop and mold the future leaders of tomorrow,” said Arianne Overholtz, president, NMA Lansing chapter. “She provided fabulous examples of how your company ‘brand’ is so much more that what is outwardly visible; it also involves all the little things that people do not necessarily see. Her speech solidified that she truly understands and respects all of the aspects of being an effective leader and this was great to see and hear in person.” In evaluating Simon’s accomplishments for the award, the committee commended Simon for her work to transform the University to a ‘world grant’ organization, along with her commitment to a firm set of core values—quality, inclusiveness and connectivity— propelling both her leadership and institution forward. The committee cited Simon’s leadership in making MSU a model of 21st century education, enabling the university to build connections, focus on inclusion and commit to quality. The Hall of Fame Award is given to an individual in recognition of significant personal and professional contributions to the development of management and leadership.
