Health Care Value Executive Vice President Kevin Klobucar joined a select group of health care leaders in Washington, D.C., Oct. 5 to share BCBSM’s success with health plan design and provider outreach for marketplace offerings. The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) hosted the “Marketplace Insights and Innovations” forum, and invited media, and consumer and provider groups to listen in on health care leaders’ discussions about strategies for consumer engagement, provider contracting and care coordination. HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell kicked off the forum. Healthcare.gov Chief Executive Officer Kevin Counihan and acting CMS Administrator Andy Slavitt also spoke. “Everyone [here] shares a similar vision — a strong Marketplace — one that works for consumers, businesses and communities,” Burwell tweeted after the forum. Washington, D.C., journalists from the Wall Street Journal, Associated Press and Bloomberg News were among the attendees. A live stream of the forum was expected to attract about 2,000 viewers. Klobucar was a panelist on a discussion titled “Innovations in plan design and provider outreach.” “I was honored to be invited to speak to a national audience about Blue Cross and our work to make health care affordable while providing the best quality care,” Klobucar said. “Through innovations like offering lower cost, higher value provider networks, Blue Cross is positioned as a leader in health care value. “It was a great opportunity to showcase our health care innovation, share our successes, and talk about the lessons we learned.”
