In 2020, the pandemic changed the world in many ways for our families, friends, neighbors, communities, first responders and essential workers. Everyone faced challenges and uncertainties. With great pride, I can say that throughout these extraordinary times, one thing our members and customers have always been certain about is their access to quality, affordable health care through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. We have an 82-year track record of dependability and an unwavering commitment to our mission that was sustained in 2020 with unprecedented outreach to our members, customers, provider partners and communities.
The health care industry is always evolving, and the pandemic accelerated the pace of change. At Blue Cross we are working strategically with partners and providers to keep health insurance affordable and bring increased value to members. We continue to embrace innovation and collaboration, seek growth opportunities and partnerships, and fulfill our commitment to keeping our customers first. In 2020, we continued to experience national growth in multiple lines of business, strengthened current partnerships and formed new and innovative partnerships. Our work to serve as a trusted advisor throughout these critical times has been well-received as demonstrated by our continued growth during the pandemic. We now have 5.34 million members across all 50 states and are the third-largest Blue plan and sixth-largest Medicare Advantage plan in the U.S.
As you will see in the 2020 Annual Report, our company kept its long-standing commitments to health of those we serve and our partners while also delivering outstanding business results that allow us to ensure access to quality, affordable health care coverage.
