Blue Care Network is aligned with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s mission to be our members’ trusted partner by providing affordable, innovative products that improve their care and health. We never waver from this mission, even in crisis. During the pandemic, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan made an unprecedented commitment of $1.3 billion to ensure access and support for members, customers and communities. This included Blue Care Network waiving all member copays, deductibles and coinsurance for COVID-19 testing and treatment in 2020, mailing thousands of Community Care packages to BCN Advantage members, and enabling technologies to save providers time and allow members to receive medications faster. In the first few months of the pandemic, health disparities and the impacts driven by social determinants of health among Michiganders became more apparent. Because Blue Cross has been working to address this issue for several years, our company and subsidiaries were able to respond quickly and build on our focus on health and health care disparities as integral components of our pandemic response. BCN was part of this united front, which included providing education about unconscious bias to employees and providers, supplying accurate information and dispelling myths, and ensuring our company’s leaders were engaged in shaping statewide health care disparity task forces targeting improved health care outcomes across our Michigan communities. Blue Care Network is a key driver of our company’s strength, offering affordable options for comprehensive coverage as a health maintenance organization. BCN sells plans in every Michigan county and offers a variety of products, programs and network options for customers plus access to more than 6,000 primary care physicians, 25,000 specialists and 100 Michigan hospitals.
