Blue Cross Celebrates Commitment to Diverse Suppliers
At Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, we believe that creating opportunities throughout the community is essential to our success. Our Supplier Diversity Program is one program which works to maximize the inclusion of diverse groups in the procurement of goods and services at Blue Cross.
These efforts are recognized every year through our Supplier Diversity Achievement Awards, which were again moved online for 2021 due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.
“Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan strives to reflect the communities we serve through a longstanding commitment to inclusion and diversity,” President and CEO Daniel J. Loepp said. “It is ingrained in our culture and it is how we do business.”
He also assured that the company has not waivered on its commitment to create equal access and opportunities for diverse businesses. Loepp continued that, “Our vision and mission for supplier diversity is to establish best-in-class business development practices that empower all the communities we serve.”
Blue Cross has reinforced its commitment to supplier diversity with Board of Directors resolutions to encourage spend with diverse businesses.
Companies can be certified as diverse suppliers if they are at least 51% owned and operated by a minority, women, veteran, LGBTQ+ or person with disabilities. Suppliers that aren’t diverse can participate in the tier 2 program by tracking their diverse spend.
