These health benefits have emerged as a viable employee care option by way of high-deductible health plans (HDHPs), Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) or Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs). Consumer-driven health plans put employees in the driver’s seat of their health care, often presenting a lower-cost option to more traditional plans. On average, HDHP premiums were 42 percent lower than those of individual PPO premiums. It’s no wonder that 70 percent of large employers offered employees at least one high-deductible health plan this year as either an add-on to a traditional health plan or replacement for traditional coverage.
