BCBSM Medicare Advantage members can get free telehealth, primary care through the end of 2020

Seniors are particularly vulnerable in the COVID-19 pandemic – and their physical health isn’t the only thing at risk. Emotionally, they may also need more support than usual. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network are making sure seniors get the help they need during the pandemic without having to worry about the cost. Starting May 1 through Dec. 31, 2020, members with BCBSM and BCN Medicare Advantage plans can receive free in-network services for the following types of visits:
  • In-person primary care
  • Behavioral health office visits
  • Telehealth services for medical and behavioral health
No copays, coinsurance or deductibles will be needed. Medicare Advantage members in group plans are advised to check with their group plan administrator to see if this applies to them. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted many of the typical support services for seniors – which means they may not be getting the same friendly visits or social interactions that they’re used to, leaving them more isolated. That kind of social isolation can trigger feelings of depression and anxiety, which can be harmful if left unaddressed. Routine medical visits like annual checkups or therapy visits may also be different during the pandemic. Small changes in a senior’s health are important to monitor, as many older adults are also managing chronic conditions. Seniors can see their health worsen quickly in the absence of regular interactions with their doctor to monitor their symptoms. Blue Cross is actively reaching out to the seniors who need it most to connect them with information about the pandemic and the resources they need to stay healthy and safe. Blue Cross has also previously taken steps to help seniors access health care during the pandemic. For Medicare Advantage members, these include free COVID-19 diagnostic lab testing and treatment when consistent with CDC guidelines, a free 24-hour nurse line and waived refill limits for 30-day and 90-day prescription maintenance medications.
